Role Description
We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our established design team. This is a newly created role that will closely align with both sales and production teams, turning customer concepts into practical, manufacturable solutions.
You'll need to be mechanically minded, confident in how things fit together and comfortable managing multiple projects at once. The role combines hands-on design work with regular liaison across departments, so strong communication skills, commercial awareness and confidence are key.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings using Solidworks
- Work with the sales team to develop mechanical solutions that help secure new business
- Ensure designs are mechanically thought through, practical, manufacturable, and aligned with company capabilities
- Ensure designs are mindful of installation and ongoing maintenance of the completed product
- Support production with clear assembly advice and technical guidance
- Manage multiple live projects from concept through to completion
- Communicate effectively across sales, production and management to ensure smooth delivery
- Identify opportunities to simplify design, reduce costs and improve manufacturability
Key skills and experience
- Minimum 4 years solidworks experience
- Strong mechanical design and drawing experience (solidworks essential)
- Mechanically minded with a good understanding of how things go together
- Experience in revision controlled & process driven design environment
- Strong level of knowledge in some or all of the following areas:
- Aluminium profile
- Tubular fabrication & welding
- Sheet timber construction
- Sheet plastics construction
- Support production with clear assembly advice and technical guidance
- Clear and confident communicator, able to liaise effectively across multiple teams
- Practical and commercial mindset
- Formal engineering qualification beneficial but not essential
- Confident but down-to-earth personality - someone who takes pride in their work without ego
- Electrical and/or LED experience advantageous
